Bat Eared Foxes V. Pouched Rats
Deep in the African savanna, a short fox trots about, pawing at the ground and even digging for a snack every so often. It was summer time, so the Bat-Eared Fox was (because they are only diurnal in the winter) doing its nightly hunting. For insects, of course. The Bat Eared Fox' diet consisting of only bugs, its large ears assisting it in help of finding insects that are skippering on the ground or those burrowed underneath the surface. As its small paw digs into the ground, hearing a yummy grub fiddling with the dirt, its large ears pick up on a sound not too close by. The fox' head perks up and it huddles low to the ground. From the east of its position, it hears a sound much like the one before it. As it listens in closely on those sounds, it realizes that getting closer to the fox was a herd of hyenas! Quickly, the fox jolts up and runs rapidly, farther and farther from the hyenas until it is safe.
A large rodent scuffles along the dirt ground, peeking its head up to sniff the air every so often. This pouched rat is searching for the cache of food that it hides beneath the earth. Its acute sense of smell allows it to easily find its stashes, but not this night. Perhaps it wandered too far from the stash? Suddenly, the pouched rat feels the ground below its feet shake and tremble ever so slightly. Confused and startled, the pouched rat peaks his head up and desperately tries to smell for whatever may be near it. However, by the time he realized that the incoming animals were a herd of hungry hyenas, it was too late for him to run away to safety. It feels its body getting scooped up by a harsh hyena's jaw, it knows it is nothing more than a light snack to the predator.
