A man crouched down to get into the wooden boat, and began to paddle. The man’s kanko said that a mysterious treasure was hidden somewhere on the island in the middle of the large lake. While paddling in the calm water, the man noticed ripples in the distance, he thought to himself that it could be a school of fish. A cat, the size of a horse, flew out of the water and grabbed the man who yelled before he was pulled under. The pipe fox escaped the grasp of the cat, who the fox recognized as Cath Palug, the sea feline who took nine-score of the king’s men. The kanko was frightened now that he was out in the lake with no shore in sight. He decided to multiply himself to have a chance to survive the next charge from Cath Palug. The boat was launched into the air at spectacular speed. The kankos were scattered and fell back into the water. Cath Palug quickly grabbed at every kanko he could see, while the others were trying to find land. One kanko finally found the island and hid within some bushes. The kanko kept calm and waited to see if the cat left the vicinity. Suddenly, Cath Palug flew out of the water and pounced onto the kankos who realized that he was the last one of his multiples.
