It’s a sneak attack–the Hyrax pounces on the mountain Viscacha to take control of the single blade of grass in the middle of the high desert. This is a tough feat for both species of rodent, because they are ill-equipped for this environment. The mountain Viscacha deflects the sharp nails away from its tender throat and then uses its long curly tail to wrap around a cactus for an attempted escape. However, this escape attempt fails and the ill-rooted cactus comes crashing down. In an attempt to shake away the cactus, the Viscacha finds himself stuck to it and quickly uses it as a weapon thrashing it about in hopes to deliver a deathly blow to the Hyrax. The Hyrax, barely missing one of the cactus blows, swings its claws in defense and ends up completely cutting off the the mountain Viscacha’s tail. With the pain of his now missing tail, the Viscacha jumps at the Hyrax knocking over the Hyrax, pinning it to the ground. The Viscacha tears away the fur around the neck of the Hyrax in an attempt to bite him. But it’s too late, the Viscacha has lost too much blood from its missing tail and is rendered unconscious. The Hyrax refocuses on the single blade of grass, running to it but discovers it’s only a simple desert mirage and that no blade of grass exists.
