A group of Neanderthals are roaming across a snowy temperate deciduous forest. They are wandering south looking for warmer weather and more food. They have bags made from caribou leather with food in them, but their storages are running short.
A spotted leopard that had been separated from his family after getting carried to mainland America has wandered north. The Leopards superior heating and excellent smell has made it aware to the presents of the Neanderthals long before they even have an idea of it. The Leopard would normally run in fear of such creatures but has been drive to hunger in the frigid landscape. The Leopard would normally stalk its prey and silently and quickly attack but it is so hungry that it does not have the energy to attack quickly.
The Neanderthals continue to walk keeping an eye out for food to eat. The group continues to walk and picks up pine cones hoping for any food they can find. A small Neanderthal boy lags behind due to exhaustion and dehydration.
The Leopard sees the chance to strike. It begins to get closer and closer to the boy. Due to its excitement and anger it is careless and struts on a branch crossing its path. |
The boys head snaps up and turns around to see the Leopard behind a bush a little but away. He screams and scrambles running backwards to reach the relative safety of the group.
The Leopard usually would have been able to outrun the boy but does not have the energy.

Its lack of diligence and precision gives the Neanderthals the upper hand. They have the time to prepare and set a trap for the malnourished Leopard. Two experienced hunters separate from group and circle around the outside of the trail.
The Leopard frustrated and hungry agensit its better will decides to attempt to attack the group of Neanderthals. Unaware of the two hunters behind it it continues to advance of the hunting group.
