Porcupine of the cape VS. Baby of the Bush
Crickets sound in the warm, lonely night in South Africa, as a Porcupine of the Cape trots along looking for food in the bushes. Being an omnivore, the porcupine looking for some vegetation as a snack for the night. She is one of the largest rodents in Africa, measuring up to 81 centimeters.
The Baby of the bush is hiding in a nearby tree, looking through the night and hearing with his very sensitive ears, ready to flee if anything comes close. Looking through the night, he hears footsteps in the distance and sees a Cape porcupine approach. He sinks his claws into the branch he sits upon, frozen in time. He has marked his territory with his urine so he can find his branch whenever.
It is not normal for a Baby of the Bush to be this far south in Africa, but because of the growing and developing towns north the Bush Baby had no other choice. The Baby of the Bush is alone because after males go through puberty, they leave their mother’s territory. When he sees the porcupine, he listens for the sound of her walking, making sure its not coming close. The crickets were singing loud and a chill breeze rushes through the desert.
But suddenly, the Cape porcupine walks right up to the tree! She is looking for fruits, roots, or bark. The bush baby is frightened and tries to jump away but he falls! With a loud thump on the ground the porcupine feels attacked and starts running after it with her spiky, up to 50 centimeter long quills! He runs but can't find any trees to jump on to, and then suddenly he sees headlights... a car drives up to the Baby Bush stopping right before him. He is blinded by the harsh rays of the light and a person gets out of the car! They both run away in different directions and are safe for now... the battle has ended.
