Environmental Struggles:
In a dry sandy area lived a single kangaroo rat. It lived its life burrowing tiny tunnels across the land that he conquered. He dug his holes next to flowers and seeded areas for quick access to food. The kangaroo rat finished making its last burrow right as a plane with two cages of stolen spider monkeys from a zoo flown by. The thieves didn’t want to deal with consequences when they landed so they tossed the caged monkeys off the plane. The cages fell fast enough to break the cages but did no harm to the monkeys. The cages landed near the kangaroo rats burrows. He seemed concerned he left from the newly dug burrow to check out what had happened.
There were ten monkeys that had ran off when the cages when landed and six were knocked out. Two of those six were monkeys of 9 months of age. Young spider monkeys rely heavily on their mothers and it seemed to be the other monkeys in the cage were all males. The rat carefully inspecting the sleeping monkeys. He wasn’t aware that there was a monkeys tail below him and jumped landing on it and woke up one of the baby spider monkeys. The monkey seemed confused.
The baby monkey that had woken up first had walked up to one of the holes the rat had dug, and stuck its arm to see if there was anything. She felt the rats tail and was curious, that startled the rat and it had bit her. The monkey spotted a tree and quickly climbed up its trunk frightened by the rat. Being a young female she had learned well from the alpha female and how to spot for good and safe trees for the pack. Being so young she still was unable to make clear how to fight/defend herself so running was her only option. The rat hopped out of the hole and stood still watching the monkey in the tree struggle with the dry and fragile branches.
Spider monkeys aren’t used to this surrounding. The trees are unable to support their body weight, there were no fruit or nuts around and barely any water. After awhile the six monkeys began to get dehydrated and hungry. One male had died and the other three males had left the crash landing sight and took the other baby monkey along. The baby monkey in the tree had climbed on the wrong branch and took a tumble down to the ground, It seemed to be shocked by falling due to the early fall it had. It was dehydrated and did not want to try to climb anymore trees. She walked off to the direction the others had left. The kangaroo rats home is now done with its invaders, and back to normal in this case the kangaroo rat won I guess. In this case the environment and maybe the crash had affected the survival of the kangaroo rat and the baby spider monkey.
