As it becomes night, behind the row of mountains, the sun is starting to set. The Pallas cat, Tonjo, is at his most active as the darkness spreads over the rocky terrain. By now he is searching for small rodents in the rocks. A few minutes pass before a clatter of rocks just above the cat tumble down. It is Ernie the Takin! Tonjo looks up, with his hair-raising, and hisses at the strange animal that now stands above him. Ernie looks down at the cat and ‘coughs’ to warn the other takins if any are near.

Frightened, Tonjo swings one of his paws at Ernie but does no harm. His paw easily slips off of the takin’s oily fur. Ernie is alarmed and grips his split hooves onto the rocks to stabilize himself. He senses conflict and his adrenaline spikes as his reactions quicken. Tonjo jumps forwards and hooks his sharp claws into Ernie’s fur and bites at his horns. Ernie shakes his body in an attempt to rid the small cat from him. Tonjo holds tight but soon realizes that no amount of biting and scratching will help him win.
With this realization in mind, the Pallas cat jumps swiftly away from Ernie and runs up the jagged rocks. Although Tonjo's paws have grip and his body is light, he is not fast enough. The takin quickly climbs up the rocks and puts a hoof near Tonjo's head, stopping him in his tracks.

As Tonjo looks up at Ernie and realizes that there is no winning this fight, he quickly falls in love with this majestic creature. Ernie has a similar realization and leans down so that Tonjo can jump onto his back, this time not to harm Ernie, but to become better friends. Tonjo starts to slip, and his claws grasp onto Ernie, Ernie gives a little growl, and Tonjo finds stability. As they get comfortable, Ernie starts to slow down and become more at ease. They gallop into the setting sun and find peace in the mountains.
We could all learn from Tonjo and Ernie. Fear creates conflict, but once we start to understand each other, as the fear dissipates, bridges are created.
