A large stoat, around the weight of 10 ounces has been wondering for days when it stumbles upon the first animal it has seen in days, a large arctic hare. This animal runs at more than 25 miles and can even escape the largest predators. But this is one it has never seen before, this makes it much easier for the stoat to get close. Then the hare realizes the danger it is in, but it is almost too late. He springs from his position and the stoat takes off after him. He chases him all over the rough landscape, the hare is almost caught multiple times, but then it makes a fatal mistake. It is used to being able to turn on a dime to escape larger predators, but this small stoat is much different. As soon as the hare turns the stoat pounces, landing square on its back. It is able to hold on until it can get to the neck and use its strong jaw to nip its spine killing it instantly. With this food, the Stoat can continue on his journey, to where he does not know it will end.
A few miles away there is a roaming pack of Tundra Wolves, also known as arctic wolves. Each one of these wolves can weigh up to 125 pounds and grow up to six feet long, and this pack is made up of almost 20 wolves. The prey that this pack of hunters is going after is one of the biggest in the tundra, the American Bison. These giant grazers can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, and they always travel in a herd. Only wolves are daring enough to take on these massive animals. They fan out as they approach the herd, causing them to stampede. The arctic wolf can run up to 35 miles per hour, and their large paws act like snowshoes, enabling them to run on top of the snow. As they pursue the herd, they single out the slowest and begin to attack. As it falls behind, the wolves launch themselves, latching themselves onto the bison, using their body weight to slow it down. As more and more wolves catch up and jump on, the bison slows down and eventually falls, to be devoured by the wolves.
The bison continue to stampede through the tundra, directly towards the place where the stoat is consuming the hare. The stoat feels vibrations under its feet and is confused, what could be causing such a disturbance? Then it smells it, the bison coming straight towards him. He dives under the snow, but the bison, unlike wolves, cannot run on top of the snow. Their feet go all the way through, all the way to where the stoat is hiding. The stoat suddenly gets struck with the full force of a charging bison and dies immediately.
